ASTM F436 is a standard material and dimensional specification for hardened steel washers, intended for general-purpose mechanical and structural use with bolts, nuts, studs, and other internally and externally threaded fasteners of nominal thread diameter 1/4 through 4 inch.
Drilling & tapping holes in hardened shaftsApr 30, 2010 · if it's too hard, try a carbide drill or endmill to start the hole and countersink it a bit). then switch to regular drill. if it can be drilled with a HSS drill it can be tapped. (using a high quality tap, properly) or thread milled. or single pointed Still you can absolutely positively EDM the threads in if it's really hard.
Fully threaded rods and fully threaded studs are fasteners with threads running their entire length for full engagement of nuts or other female-threaded components. Threaded rods, also known as all thread rods (ATR) or thread full length rods (TFL), provide high grip strength and evenly distributed tension when mounting and securing components.

Hex bolts are used to fasten two or more parts together to form an assembly either because it cannot be manufactured as a single part or to allow for maintenance and repair disassembly. By definition "A Bolt is a headed and externally threaded mechanical device designed for insertion through holes in assembled
Dec 15, 2010 · You need a carbide drill for hardened steel. Anything less will simply heat up the blade and the drill and be a waste of time. Sometimes spring hardened pieces can be drilled using a cobalt but the cobalts don't last long doing it in my experience. Blades are not spring hard though and doing anything with a cobalt will likely be fruitless.

and carburization in the threaded section of hardened and tempered metric steel bolts, screws, studs, nuts and similar parts which have been heated to facilitate fabrication or to modify their mechanical properties. This test method is not intended to address products which are intentionally carburized to achieve specic results.

Aug 04, 2011 · Hard steel can be threaded by thread milling and thread grinding, both of which require specialized equipment, and neither of which are cheap. It is not unusual for threaded holes to distort or fill with scale after heat treat. As Fred pointed out, these threads can be cleaned up with a tap. Aug 3, 2011 #13
Tech 101 - Thread restoration and workarounds on existing Jun 20, 2014 · The thread cutting surfaces on these taps create a progressively better-threaded hole to receive the bolt or stud of corresponding size and thread pitch. The first of these serial taps that are used is an "entering tap"; the majority of the aggressively chamfered threads on this first tap do about 60 percent of the thread cutting in the hole.
Thread chasing:Restoring male or female fastener threads Whenever youre faced with dirty or slightly burred female threads (cylinder head threaded holes in a block, spark plug holes in a head, etc.), you may be tempted to grab an appropriate size cutting tap to clean up the threads. The correct choice is to use a chaser tap. A cutting tap is designed to create new threads, whereas a chaser tap is designed to clean, re-form and
These hardened 316 stainless steel threaded rods are 40% stronger than standard Grade B8M threaded rods. They meet the pressure and temperature requirements of ASTM A193 and are often used to secure pressure tanks, valves, and flanges.
